During a recent sit-down with PEOPLE’s Celeb Parents Get Real, the Three’s Company alum admitted that the best part of having six grandchildren (who range in age for 12 to 23) is that “you get to fall in love all over again.” “Kids don’t know blood,” says Somers, 71, who shares that she loves being part of a “blended family” (the actress has one son, Bruce Somers Jr., and just celebrated 40 years of marriage with Alan Hamel, who has two children). There’s no ‘Yours, mine, ours or anything,” adds Somers of her grandchildren, explaining she loves cooking with them (“We’re a big food family”). The former Step By Step star admits there’s one other perk of being a grandparent that she can’t ignore. “You’re a parent with none of the responsibility of being a parent,” she jokes. But in seriousness, seeing her entire family together makes Somers feel “successful” in a way nothing else does. “I look at all of them and I [think], ‘We made it through the rain,’ as Barry [Manilow] says,” she quips.
