Bun’s out of the oven!
Realty TV chef/restaurant owner Spike Mendelsohn and his wife Cody welcomed their first son, Ace Thomas Mendelsohn, on Saturday, June 11, he confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.
The couple’s baby boy weighed in at 6.4 lbs.
“We are over the moon about the new addition to our family,” Mendelsohn, 35, who was a featured chef on the fourth season of Bravo TV’s Top Chef, tells PEOPLE.
The couple, who live in Washington, D.C., where Mendelsohn owns restaurants and acts as an international food advocate, used the practice of hypnobirthing for Ace’s delivery. Hypnobirthing is a calm, natural and gentle process where Cody used deep, hypnotic relaxation techniques to aid in Ace’s birth.

Mendelsohn, who married Cody last year, picked the name Ace after a romantic interlude while visiting the South Beach hotel that houses two of his new restaurant projects.
“We landed on the name Ace because we thought he was conceived at The Hall South Beach where I just opened two restaurants,” Mendelsohn says.
The Hall is where Ace Ventura lived in the 1994 film, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
“But it turns out that our baby was actually conceived in Maui, Hawaii,” Mendelsohn says with a laugh.
“Since Cody and I had already fallen in love with the name, we kept it!”
