Come one, come all — it’s Lyric Sonny Roads‘s first birthday!

To celebrate her son’s special occasionSoleil Moon Frye welcomed friends and family over to a circus-themed backyard bash, hosted by the actress and her daughters Jagger, 7 next month, and Poet, 9½.

“His siblings are the best big sisters ever! They hosted an incredible party. I am very grateful for my family,” Frye, 38, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Before the big event, the mom of three worked with friend Lisa to put together a traditional carnival and circus motif celebration with adorable vintage trinkets and old fashioned props.

“I love party planning,” she says. “My girls help me every step of the way. I think it’s great to involve the older kids.”

Guests were greeted by a chalkboard sign — and given their very own ticket — inviting them into the fun and festive scene, which had been set up with bright (and homemade!) bouquets of fresh flowers from the morning’s farmer’s market.

Once inside, kids participated in carnival games before indulging in sweet treats set up at the colorful confection stand.

“We created a candy bar and rubber-stamped brown paper bags with circus designs,” Frye explains. “We put the candy in mason jars — always a favorite in our house.”

And what’s a circus without a few furry friends? With Lyric in his mama’s arms, Frye’s girls — along with their cousins — cuddled up to a miniature pony at the party.

To top off all the fun, the birthday boy blew out his candle on a Joanie and Leigh three-tiered cake featuring an elephant balancing on a ball.

“I had a blast coming up with ideas with them. It tasted so yummy!” says Frye.

As the party wound down, the children were sent home with gift bags filled with goodies from Seedling, the eco-friendly toy store co-founded by Frye.

“They were a fun mix of whoopee cushions, pick up sticks and other fun toys,” she shares. “We put them in old-fashioned popcorn boxes.”

With her youngest hitting such a major milestone, Frye is making it a priority to soak up all the special memories with her son.

“I can’t believe our baby boy is one,” says Frye. “It has been a big year. He is growing up so fast and I am treasuring every moment.”
