Shaun T and Husband Scott Give Update on Premature Newborn Twins: 'They're Off the Respirator'

No surprise here - Shaun T's twin boys are strong, just like their daddies

No surprise here — Shaun T‘s twin boys are strong like their daddies.

The fitness guru and husband Scott Blokker joined PEOPLE Now via video chat to give an update on their new additions, who were born prematurely on Friday at 32 weeks.

“The good news is they’re off the respirator, which is great,” Blokker says. “They sometimes use the feeding tube and sometimes use the bottle to feed, so we’re actually moving in a great direction.”

Blokker adds that they’re celebrating new milestones every day — including their kids’ first time making their dads pull diaper duty.

“We celebrated some movements last night — meaning from kids into the diapers — so that was a big day for us,” he says with a laugh. “I just didn’t know how to say that. So there are small victories that are amazing.”

Doctors say the babies will likely need to stay in the hospital for two to five weeks or until their actual January due date, but Shaun T is crossing his fingers that they’ll be coming home soon.

“Our babies are just like us — they’re really fit and their lungs are really strong, so everyone’s really impressed with how much they are progressing so far,” says the 39-year-old.

He continues, “We’re hoping sooner [rather] than later, but we want to keep them in there as long as [needed so] they can get as healthy as possible.”

Because the babies were premature, the T Is for Transformation author reveals that he and Blokker saw their twins’ birth in a unique and unexpected way.

“Thank you, Apple, because we watched our babies be born over FaceTime at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport,” Shaun T says, with his husband adding that they got some strange looks from passersby.

He also shares the story behind the adorable photos the couple, who tied the knot in October 2012, posted with their newborns: It was the first time they got to hold them.

“After over 24 hours, that was the first time we were actually able to put them on our chests and to hold them, so it was just the most amazing moment for us,” Shaun T explains. “It felt so good — it still feels really good.”

He adds, “They’re in the NICU now, so it was hard for me to sleep last night because I just wanted to race over to the hospital to look at them. It’s beyond.”

Shaun T says they plan to announce their sons’ names on Thanksgiving. “We’re hoping they’re well enough to be outside the incubator long enough for us to post a good photo of them and have their eyes open,” he shares.

“We want to introduce them with their names, with their eyes open so they can really embrace the love that everyone has been giving them.”
