Seth Meyers is a dad!

The Late Night with Seth Meyers star and his wife Alexi welcomed their first child — son Ashe Olson — on Sunday, March 27, his rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“Thank you everyone for the kind words! Mom and baby are doing great!!!” the new dad tweeted Monday morning.

In a second tweet, Meyers jokes, “I can also confirm that when you have a baby in New York you pretty much just sing ‘The Schuyler Sisters‘ [from Broadway hit Hamilton] for the first 12 hours.”

Seth, 42, and Alexi, 32, a human rights lawyer, shared more about Ashe’s delivery on Tuesday’s Late Night, including the meaning behind the little boy’s moniker.

The Saturday Night Live alum says he and Alexi had gone to brunch and returned home when she began having back pain, two weeks before their first child was due. “I’m bad at recognizing patterns or else I would have known that those were contractions,” he jokes.

After speaking to Alexi’s doctor, Seth and his wife were beginning to prep for a trip to the hospital when her water broke.

Grabbing an Uber ride from a shocked but helpful driver, Seth and Alexi made it to Lenox Hill, where the mom-to-be was fully dilated upon arrival. Seth says Alexi declined any drugs during the birth (although he tried to “score some” for himself).

Ashe’s moniker is borrowed from Alexi’s maiden name, he explains: “I can’t picture a better way to honor what my wife did than naming him after her. The middle name is Olson, which is my mother’s maiden name. To be able to name him after those two women …”

Clarifying that his baby boy is not named after Ashley Olsen, Meyers jokes, “People have said to us, ‘Ashe Olsen? Do you think people will think you named it after Ashley Olsen?’ And to them I have said, ‘No one will think that … because I’ve long been a Mary-Kate guy.’ ”

Earlier this month, the dad-to-be talked about his excitement over his first child.

“I’m most looking forward to seeing who it looks like, that’s the first thing out of the gate,” he told PEOPLE of the baby, whose sex they kept a surprise. “Although … a lot of people have said my wife and I look alike, so I think that’s the one thing we know, is that the child will look like us. If not, there’s a real problem.”

One thing the couple did to prep for the baby? Ask for plenty of advice from seasoned parents.

“It’s a lot more fun talking to people who are on their third kid than people who are on their first kid,” he said. “First kid people have a checklist [of] a million things long, whereas on their third kid, they basically just tell you, ‘Look, [babies] are indestructible. You don’t have to worry about it. They’re gonna get bumps and bruises and it’ll be fine.’ So we’ve been trying to spend more time with people that have multiple children.”

The couple, whose pregnancy was revealed in November, were married in 2013 on Martha’s Vineyard.
