Scarlett Johansson Hates When Celebs Make 'Grandiose Statements About Parenthood'

"I don't profess to know anything more about parenting than anybody else," the Avengers: Age of Ultron star says

Scarlett Johansson isn’t one to gloss over the truth.

In an interview with the Australian Daily Telegraph, the Avengers: Age of Ultron star admits that she is “such a newbie” at parenting Rose Dorothy, her daughter with husband Romain Dauriac.

“I always really hate it when actors or people in the spotlight make giant grandiose statements about parenthood because it’s so, so personal,” she says. “I don’t profess to know anything more about parenting than anybody else.”

Johansson, 30, also talks about how her priorities have shifted since Rose was born in September.

“Before, I just made the choices that were affecting me, but now I’m responsible for somebody else,” she says. “Eventually, I will have to work less, and it might even make me more discerning.”

She continues, “I think having any kind of huge life-changing event happen to you, such as having children … is very, very inspiring. I think it will hopefully enrich my work, as well as my understanding of myself.”

The actress, who plays Black Widow in the Avengers series, says that the main thing she’d like to pass on to her daughter from her own mother is a sense of unconditional support of both Johansson and her twin brother.

“She was very, very encouraging of our separate interests growing up. She just made us feel that you could do whatever you wanted to do, as long as you really wanted to do it, and that’s why I got into acting,” Johansson says.

Johansson and Dauriac were secretly wed in October and have since been spotted taking well-deserved parents’ nights out.
