He may be a funny man on the silver screen, but for Rob Corddry, there’s nothing more validating than his kid’s approval.

“There was a moment a couple of weeks ago when my 2-year-old [daughter Marlo] went, ‘Mommy – Daddy’s funny!’ and I’m like ‘Yeah! I nailed it!'” Corddry, 40, told reporters backstage at The Comedy Awards on Saturday, where he picked up the award for Sketch Comedy/Alternative Comedy Series for Children’s Hospital.

“I don’t remember what I said, but probably something hilarious, knowing me, right?”

The former Daily Show correspondent is also dad to elder daughter Sloane, 4½, with wife Sandra. And with his girls making their way to preschool, Corddry is even finding inspiration for his next project, Little in Common, from an unusual place – the play yard.

“It’s a minefield of awkwardness,” he said. “It’s a bunch of people who have nothing in common but that their children go to the same school. You just step on awkward bombs every step you take. I don’t know what to talk about either when I’m there.”
