Mini Chic! Inside Ralph Lauren's Girls Runway Show

Ralph Lauren‘s Girls runway show on Wednesday in New York City didn’t bring out your typical Fashion Week crowd. As impeccably dressed as the usual crop of editors, the ladies were a lot, well, smaller.

The highly coveted front row seats for his children’s fall and holiday show were reserved for fashion’s future icons — ranging from five to 13 years old. (Their equally stylish mothers sat behind them.)

Full of rich reds, navys, hunter greens and deep plums in the form of luxe layers and fabrics — think petticoats, plaid button ups, thick wool riding leggings, distressed denim and faux-fur trimmed sweaters — the collection was well suited for the young fashionistas.

To keep the looks youthful, Lauren paired his signature countryside-chic ensembles with cool kicks, like leopard print sneakers, and on-trend boho braids.

Along with horseback riding inspired garb, there were adorable dresses fit for a pint size Audrey Hepburn, including a belted red satin dress topped off with a furry hat and gloves (above) that would be perfect holiday-party attire.

And it’s only fitting that one of the fashion industry’s current darlings, Mad Men‘s Kiernan Shipka, was in attendance. “It’s my first fashion week and my first fashion show. It’s really a cool experience. I’m trying to take it all in,” the actress told PEOPLE.

She also revealed that it will be her only NYFW show. “I just wanted it to be this one because Ralph Lauren is my favorite brand.”

Shipka fit right in with the models, wearing a red military jacket paired with skinny velvet cargo pants, a white pin-tucked tuxedo shirt and black riding boots (all from Ralph Lauren Children’s collection).

“I tried on a couple outfits,” she admitted. “But as soon as we pulled this one together — it was the one. I just knew it.”
