She may get to work with big stars like Jennifer Lawrence and Sofia Vergara, but celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe says it’s her little ones that truly make her smile.

“I haven’t had a bad day since my first son was born,” Zoe told PEOPLE at Sean Penn‘s Help Haiti Home gala on Saturday. “Honestly, every day is heaven.”

Zoe, 43, and husband Rodger Berman are parents to sons, Skyler Morrison, 3½, and Kaius Jagger, 1, which sounds like quite a handful when you’re also juggling your own career and marriage. So how do they handle it?

“Weirdly enough the kids actually help you keep it together. It is chaos, but they just check you all the time. No matter what, you’re Mom,” she says.

According to Zoe, being a mother is her main focus in life right now — and her hard work is clearly paying off.

“My younger son Kai said, ‘Mama,’ on Monday, which was huge. I lost my mind. I cried — that’s what you do,” she shares.

Days after the big moment, Zoe was still celebrating the major milestone at the opening of magazine’s Shooting Stars Exhibit on Friday.

“I walked into the kitchen to give him breakfast, which I do every morning. And at this point, no matter what he says, I simply say, ‘Mama!’ ” she told PEOPLE. “That’s all I ever say. And, literally, I walked in and he just said, ‘Mama!’ “

And Zoe’s reaction said it all. “I grabbed [Kai] and started kissing his entire face,” she shares. “[I told him,] ‘I love you more than life itself.’ It [was] the absolute most incredible thing in the entire world.”

She jokes, “They always say, ‘Dada,’ first and I don’t know what that is. It’s like someone is punishing us for something. We carry them, we push them out and they say, ‘Dada?’ I’m still trying to figure this out.”

The proud mama is equally impressed by Kai’s big brother, Skyler, who knows every planet in the solar system, loves studying dinosaurs — and said his first words when he was only 5-months-old.

“Skyler actually speaks as though he is 40. He is such an old soul and he has the vocabulary of an adult,” she says. “You forget that he is 3HALF because he is so wise.”

She adds, “He reminds me a lot of my dad. He is so inquisitive. He loves to do everything … He remembers every hotel [and] every place that he’s ever been. It’s crazy! He literally performs in front of the mirror and does anything. He blows my mind every day!”
