Queen Rania of Jordan, 37, opened a new, Baby Friendly Hospital in Sahab on last Wednesday. It is an initiative, implemented in 171 countries where a hospital reaches specific standards related to the 10 Steps for Successful Breastfeeding. Research has shown that breastfeeding newborns within an hour after birth reduces infant neo-natal mortality rate by 22 per cent, a process very important in the 10 Steps programme. Queen Rania commented on breastfeeding, saying,
This is the sixth Baby Friendly Hospital opened in Jordan. Queen Rania and King Abdullah II of Jordan, 45, are parents to Prince Hussein, 13, Princess Iman, 11 this month, Princess Salma, 7 this month, and Prince Hashem, 2 1/2.
