FURNITURE THAT POPS
ROCK STAR GLAMOUR
Rockers aren’t the only ones that like over-the-top decor (think gilded crowns, bejeweled pillows, chandeliers). This nursery by Rockabye Mommy was designed for Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean and wife Rochelle using the color pink and leopard prints as starting points. It also features beautifully crafted furniture that will grow with their baby girl.
FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY
Gray has replaced beige as the hue of choice for gender neutral nurseries. It’s especially pretty when you add pops of color including hot pink, yellow and aqua, which have also been trending in nursery design. We love how versatile, soothing and modern this shade looks on the walls.
DOWNTON ABBEY DECADENCE
Thanks to everyone’s favorite period drama, gilding and ornate patterns have made a huge comeback in fashion, and now we’re also seeing this Edwardian style in nursery design. Featuring everything from tufting, gold frames and a crystal chandelier, we’re certain the Crawley sisters would approve of this aristocratic-inspired pink room created by Little Crown Interiors.
Bye-bye to the über-stark nurseries popular in recent years. Instead, we predict a rise in a mix of both modern and vintage styles. Throw in a little D.I.Y. project like a mobile or fabric hoop wall art and your baby room (like this one) will take on a handmade feel perfect for displaying future family heirlooms.
THINGS ARE LOOKING UP!
MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO
Bright pinks and blues are just the tip of the iceberg. Eye-popping colors can boost the level of fun of your kids’ bedroom or play area.
Sticks and stones won’t break your bones – literally! Taking the crib wall to a whole new level, more and more families are using more natural-looking accents (check out this wood-paneled room by J and J Design Group) to create a more homey feel.
While tackling their own nursery designs, former roommates and now business partners Melisa Fluhr and Pam Ginocchio decided to launch Project Nursery to be the ultimate source for all things related to children’s home design – from glam and modern to vintage-inspired, they cover it all.
