Padma Lakshmi‘s daughter might be better suited for the stage than the runway.

On Wednesday, the proud mom sat down with PEOPLE Now’s Jeremy Parsons to talk about her new book The Encyclopedia of Herbs and Spices — and to share the interests and latest milestones of her 6½-year-old daughter Krishna Thea.

For now, Krishna wants to be the next pop sensation.

“She’s very clear on what she wants to do,” Lakshmi says. “Right now she wants to be a pop star and she has music lessons three out of seven days of the week.”

Lakshmi, 46, who shares custody with Krishna’s father Adam Dell, says her daughter is used to life in the spotlight.

“She knows that Mom’s on TV,” she says. “She’s a set baby and so she’s very familiar. There’s also paparazzi that hang outside our apartment, so she’s hyper aware.”

But before Krishna shares her musical talents with the world, Lakshmi hopes her daughter gets her degree first.

“I would like her to do what I did, which was finish college before she starts modeling,” she explains. “I think having an education is very important for a whole host of reasons. I want her to be happy and healthy and do what naturally interests her. I modeled to pay off my college loans. I don’t think she will have that problem.”

There are a lot of things the mother-daughter duo love to do together. Namely, in Lakshmi’s native habitat: the kitchen.

“Krishna has her own mortar and pestle,” Lakshmi says. “And she has a wooden kitchen at the end of my kitchen counter, and I put it there so when I’m cooking, she would have something to do. And now, she just sits on the counter with me and actually helps.”

And the Top Chef host admits her daughter excels in one culinary skills in particular.

“She is much better than me at rolling out dough,” she jokes. ” Because she has these little delicate fingers and she can get the dough really nice and even and flat. She’s a great cook.”
