Catherine Bell in Competition with Dora the Explorer

Keeping kids interested in their background is important to many parents, Catherine Bell included. The actress is trying her hardest to make sure that daughter Gemma, 5 ½, is aware of her Persian heritage but she’s meeting some resistance along the way! “When she was little, I tried more to teach her Farsi,” shares Catherine, 40. “If I had the time to really speak it to her she’d probably get more, but we just go over a bunch of Persian words with her, so she still has a sense of what it is.”

However, Gemma has decided she wants to learn a different language, thanks to a certain cartoon character.

“I have met the enemy, and her name is Dora … She was trying to learn Spanish, like Dora the Explorer! I’ll continue to teach her a few words here and there, and Dora will take care of her part. I’d love it if my daughter grew up knowing dozens of languages.”

Catherine has relocated her family to South Carolina as she films the television series Army Wives seven months out of the year. Part of moving her family was so she and husband Adam Beason could provide a stable environment for Gemma — “I don’t really want to keep moving her around,” Catherine explains.

Catherine can next be seen in The Good Witch’s Garden on Saturday, February 7th at 9 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel. Army Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
