Vat19’s frog and duck musical animal puppets ($16) are so much more than just puppets. They’re adorable plush toys that are a fun and an engaging way to interact with your baby or toddler without over stimulating them.

The age recommendation is for children ages 3 and up but that’s the recommended age for using them, not being entertained by them! Both frog and duck brought out a wonderful response from my four-month-old son. From the moment he saw the frog and duck puppets he was engrossed in them. It’s not easy to hold the attention of such a young baby for long, but these musical puppets held his interest for 15-30 minutes. Each time we play with them his smile gets bigger and his laughter grows.

Each puppet plays three different classic nursery rhymes based on how slowly or quickly you move the animal’s mouth. Both animals play Old MacDonald, Frere Jacques, and London Bridge is Falling Down.

My biggest frustration with musical toys these days are searching for batteries. What a great pleasure it was for me to learn that these puppets come with the batteries. The batteries are stored in a Velcro pouch with plenty of plush cushion surrounding them. What an even greater pleasure to learn that you can turn off the music and enjoy the toys silently!

Not only are these puppets adorable, they build cognitive development, which is important to me as a mom and an elementary educator. I enjoyed being able to interact with my son with this toy. If you’re looking for an inexpensive toy that can be enjoyed during play time over the childhood years, I would highly recommend these puppets.
