Any semblance of a Bachelor Pad is long gone for Michael Stagliano — he’s going to be a dad!
The Bachelorette season 5 contestant and his wife Emily are expecting their first child, a son, in early November, the couple tell PEOPLE exclusively.
“For our family, we did something a bit more special, but for our close friends, we’ve just been blindsiding them in conversation,” Stagliano, 32, says of how he and Emily — whom he calls “insanely loving and nurturing” — have been breaking the news to their loved ones. “And the reactions are so great.”

The couple, who are celebrating two years of marriage Tuesday, had a timeline in mind for when they wanted to conceive — thanks to his twin brother Stephen Stagliano‘s growing family with former Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas Stagliano.
“We knew that we wanted to wait a tiny bit after we got married,” says Stagliano, who now works as a TV writer. “As soon as we got to hold [our niece] Addison, that gave us a little bit of baby fever.”
“[Their son] Austin was born in March and our little guy will be here in early November, so they’ll be close in age,” adds Emily, 31, who also admits to being a “type-A planner.”
And while Stagliano is feeling “great,” so is Emily. In fact, morning sickness hasn’t been plaguing her at all.
“I almost feel guilty!” she confesses, adding that although she hasn’t had any nauseated feelings, her natural love for sweets like candy and ice cream has been enhanced.
“There have been many nights where Michael will voluntarily go out and get ice cream for us,” she continues. “He’ll say, ‘No no no, you stay here, I’ll go out and get us some ice cream.’ He’s been very sweet.”
It’s clear Stagliano is ready to have a child of his own. He hasn’t been shy about showing off his niece and nephew on Instagram, posting photos and videos of them alongside proud captions.
Emily, who works in finance, goes on to tell PEOPLE that her husband will make an amazing father.
“I know he will be present and ready to help and making that kid’s day every single day with his smile and his energy,” she says. “I know that our son will be very well loved because Michael’s [his] dad.”
But that’s not to say it hasn’t been a learning process for the Bachelor Pad 2 winner.
“Michael wasn’t a big fan of holding babies. He was afraid of hurting them!” Emily says. “[But] when Addison came along, and then Austin, he put away all the hesitancy that he had before.”
“I don’t have that natural comfort level,” Stagliano agrees. “But as soon as there’s some interaction going on, I’m just hook, line and sinker.”
When it comes to the name they’ve picked out for their little boy, the Staglianos admit that although they’re going to wait for his birth for the big reveal, they chose it before they were even married.
“We talked about our kids’ names a few months into dating,” says Emily, who became engaged to Stagliano seven months after they started seeing each other and adds that she feels like she “was put on this earth to be a mom.”
“Totally healthy to talk about baby names on date number three!” Stagliano jokes. “[But] it worked out for us.”
