Mary-Louise Parker talks about single motherhood
The circumstances which led to Mary-Louise Parker becoming a single mom with the birth of son William Atticus, 4, are something she says she doesn’t dwell on. To do so not only would be unfair to William, but also to her daughter Caroline ‘Ash’ Aberash, Mary-Louise says.
Of course I think about myself, but I think about my children 25 hours a day. I think about my children as I walk in the door, so I don’t think in terms of ‘oh if my life were…’ That’s not good for them. Your children suffer when you have one foot in the past.
In her new film The Spiderwick Chronicles Mary-Louise plays a mom with her fair share of imperfections, and the 43-year-old actress enjoyed taking part in such an honest portrayal of motherhood.
I hope I’m a better mother in some ways, and I’d like to be as good as her in others. I mean, every parent fails. That’s what I like about this character, she’s not perfect. She loses her temper, she’s impatient, she makes bad decisions like most parents.
