Malin Akerman discusses the joys (and challenges) of raising her 3-year-old son Sebastian
Malin Akerman has been up to quite a lot lately.
In addition to starring in Showtime’s Billions, the actress, 38, is also single mother to 3-year-old son Sebastian and a fitness enthusiast and spokesperson. Despite all her involvements, Akerman’s relationship with her son remains her highest priority.
“The most important thing for me is trying to be present when I am with my son,” she told PEOPLE at the LG Fitness Fashion event Wednesday in New York.

“It’s a love that’s inexplicable — having a child changes you for the better. He’s just this incredible being who’s in my life,” says Akerman, who is working as LG’s spokesperson promoting their new washer/dryer unit, the SideKick, which specializes in maintaining the quality of your workout gear.
“As a woman on the move, the last thing I want to do is focus on chores,” she says on why she decided to partner with LG.
Akerman says that as he grows, Sebastian has developed a bit more of an attitude — and that she can’t help but laugh.
“Three is the age where everything is so much fun and also really challenging. You have to set boundaries on a daily basis,” she says. “He’s started putting his hands on his hips and standing his ground, which is really funny because he’s yay high and has the face of an angel.”
Among all the different things she’s involved in, Akerman is still able to find some balance between all her responsibilities.
“You just figure it out — you carve out the space,” she explains. “You make time and make sure you have time for yourself.”
