Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are masters on the dance floor, but becoming parents is a completely new challenge for the Dancing with the Stars pros.

“Right now we’re figuring out what is going on,” Chmerkovskiy, 36, told reporters backstage after Monday’s episode of DWTS.

“For the longest time, [Peta] was, like, ‘The body parts are getting bigger!’ Or she would have morning sickness — we got lucky and she never really threw up, but she felt yucky — and she would say, ‘What’s wrong with me?’ “

But Chmerkovskiy has done his best to calm his fiancée’s nerves.

“I would tell her, ‘We know exactly what it is. You’re pregnant and congratulations,’ ” he said.

Chmerkovskiy is making sure to cater to Murgatroyd, 30, who expects to give birth to their first son together in January.

“Peta’s a strong sort of independent character,” he said. “But it’s not like, ‘Oh, I want this and I want that.’ She doesn’t voice her needs like that. She’s like, ‘Just surprise me with spoils.’ ”

And he loves spoiling her with whatever she wants — but that doesn’t include junk food.

“She doesn’t have cravings of Burger King and McDonald’s,” Chmerkovskiy said. “She has cravings of 5 star restaurants, grass-feed organic kobe beef.”

As for if he thinks his future son will have a similar palate, “I’m trying to understand if that’s where it leads to,” he says.
