Baby on the Way for 'Moonlight' 's Mahershala Ali

Moonlight star Mahershala Ali and his wife Amatus Sami-Karim are expecting their first child, the actor announced on Instagram Thursday night

2017 could be Mahershala Ali‘s year to take home an Academy Award and a baby!

The Moonlight Oscar-nominee hopeful shared Thursday evening that he and his wife are going to be parents for the first time via a sweet black-and-white photo on his Instagram account.

“Amatus~Sami,” wrote the actor, 42 — a reference to his wife Amatus Sami-Karim, who is pictured next to Ali, with her hand over her belly.

Ali and Sami-Karim tied the knot in 2013, after knowing each other for almost 20 years.

“I know she’s a serious person,” the actor confessed on the podcast Death, Sex and Money in March. “She’s extraordinarily intelligent, she’s about the right things, spiritually grounded, a beautiful person.”

This will be the first child for singer and artist Sami-Karim and Ali, who is also known for his Emmy-nominated role as Remy Danton on House of Cards and Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes on Marvel’s Luke Cage. He has appeared in a number of series throughout the 2000s and 2010s, including The 4400, Treme and Crossing Jordan.

The couple’s newest addition will join their cat, Nas — named after the hip-hop artist.
