Liv Tyler‘s son was cryin’ when he met grandfather Steven Tyler for the first time: in the delivery room!

The Leftovers star told Jimmy Kimmel during an appearance on his show Wednesday that the legendary Aerosmith rocker was present for Sailor Gene‘s birth — and actually cut the baby’s umbilical cord.

When Liv went into labor with her first child six weeks earlier than expected, her fiancé David Gardner was out of town, so she called her sister to accompany her for the birth. Her sister, in turn, called Steven, who hopped on a plane to be there just in time for his grandson’s arrival.

“He kinda walked in just before everything happened,” Liv, 38, said, laughing.

Liv adds, “Never in a million years would [I] have thought I’d give birth with my dad and my sister, but it was actually really sweet because … we were laughing a lot.”

The actress says they also took a “really funny” picture of Steven cutting the cord and “it’s like all the doctors, and everything is really very hygienic, and his hand just looks insane kinda in there with his long black claws, the painted black stripe in the middle — his skull rings.”

Liv says the 67-year-old is “very sweet” and that having him around is like “having a wizard as a grandfather.”

“We don’t always see him that often, but when we do, it’s like this magical wizard comes to the house,” she shares.

The star also reveals how she and Gardner decided on a name for their 9-month-old baby boy.

“It took a minute to figure out what his name was gonna be,” she explains. “One of my favorite movies is Wild at Heart, which is a David Lynch movie, and the characters are Sailor and Lula, so I liked it.”
