Singer Lauryn Hill gave birth to a baby boy over the weekend, her sixth child, according to several reports.
A source close to Hill, 36, said there were complications with the birth on Saturday night because the baby’s umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck, but that Hill and her son are both “fine” now.
The baby’s name and father’s identity have not been released. The status of her relationship with long-term boyfriend Rohan Marley – Bob Marley’s son and the father of Hill’s other five children – is unclear. Marley has said that he is not the father of her new son, and Tweeted on Monday: “I’m forwarding all well wishes to Ms. Hill on the birth of her new son.” A source told CNN that Hill is calling the baby “Baby Boy Marley.”
At a concert in Detroit last month, Hill announced she was pregnant and told the audience she would be taking time off to focus on the baby. She has yet to confirm the birth publicly, but a message of congratulations was posted on her website.
