Fashion designer and former reality star Lauren Conrad is getting ready for a big adjustment - she's due to welcome her first child this summer
Lauren Conrad‘s life is about to change in a big way, and she can’t wait.
The star, 31, is expecting her first child — a boy! — with husband William Tell this summer. And when we caught up with her to discuss her new pop-up shop with Lord & Taylor recently, she said it’s going to be a big adjustment.
“I see our lives changing,” she tells PEOPLE in the new issue, on newsstands now. “I think you don’t know until you’re there. I have very nice friends who are attempting to prepare me, but everybody does it differently.”
One thing she knows for sure will change? Her beauty rest. “It’s going to be a lot less sleep, so that’ll be an adjustment, but we’re excited,” she says.
That said, she’s going to be surrounded by lots of supportive family members once the baby arrives. “William and I are so fortunate that we’re having the first grandchild on both sides,” she says. “Both of our families live about 20 minutes from us so I think we’ll have a lot of help, which is really great.”
She also says that Tell is ready to embrace his new role as a dad.
“I think that guys have to meet their kid and really be there before they feel like a parent,” she says. “Whereas as a woman, you had a relationship with this tiny person for so long! I’m excited to see how it works out.”

One thing the founder of Paper Crown and LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s is leaving up to chance is her maternity leave.
“I’m giving myself a terrible maternity break,” she says. “I’m trying to get a couple weeks and we’ll see. Fortunately, I have great partners in all of my companies and they’re going to be flexible with me. I’m going to attempt to take two weeks of a blackout — no emails or anything — and then I’ll have to just figure it out from there.”
