Kelly Clarkson‘s second pregnancy has an unfortunate similarity with her first: never-ending morning sickness.

“I’m familiar with all-day sickness,” said Clarkson, 33, in an interview with Gayle King on CBS This Morning Wednesday. “I have to get IVs and fluids because I get so dehydrated. It’s really bad.”

Still, Clarkson — who’s expecting a son — says having the chance to “pop out magical unicorns” like her daughter River Rose, who is now 17 months old, makes her struggle worth it.

The former American Idol winner announced her second pregnancy during her concert at Los Angeles’ Staples Center in August.

Clarkson and husband Brandon Blackstock planned to keep the news under wraps for a bit, but the singer admits she couldn’t control her emotions while singing “Piece by Piece,” a personal song about her absent father and loving husband.

“I couldn’t get through it and I was crying so hard and I thought, ‘These people are going to think I’m on drugs, but I’m about to lose it like a crazy person,’ ” she tells King, laughing. “I was like, ‘Oh, I gotta explain.’ And then it just came out.”

The singer says the tune shows her “vulnerable” side, as she admits that Blackstock pieced her heart “back together” years after her dad broke it.

“I think a lot of people will view that as weakness, but I think it’s a strength to trust someone,” she explains.

In addition to being a great shoulder for Clarkson to lean on, Blackstock is also the ideal parent for their children.

“He’s the complete opposite of how my father was … He’s present,” she says, adding, “Once your dad basically is like, ‘You’re unwanted,’ you can say anything and it’s not going to bother me.”

Sickness and heartache aside, Clarkson has found happiness with a family of her own.

“My husband and I are like, ‘How did this happen?’ ” she says. “We’re very lucky.”
