Surprise: Kellie Martin is pregnant!
The actress is expecting her second child with her husband of 16 years, Keith Christian, she announced during a taped segment for Hallmark’s Home & Family, airing Thursday.
“Sit down, this is shocking … I am having a baby!” Martin, 39, tells the audience.
“I am five months, which turns out as 20 weeks. I said that to my husband the other day, ‘I’m 20 weeks … I’m five months pregnant!’ He’s like, ‘You just realized that?’ I’m like, ‘I did the math.’ “
She jokes, “I’m an actress so sometimes we don’t do the math.”
On hand to help Martin make the big announcement was the couple’s 8½-year-old daughter Maggie, who happily revealed she’ll be welcoming a baby sister into the family.
Despite her excitement, the mom-to-be admits she was initially worried about breaking the news to her firstborn.
“She took the news really, really well,” says Martin, who’s due in February. “I told her way earlier than I expected to because I was so sick that I didn’t want her to think there was something wrong with Mommy.”
She continues, “We sat her down and we said, ‘You are going to be a big sister,’ and it was kind of silent for a second. Just the week before, she said, ‘I love being an only child!’ So I was like, ‘Oh no!’ “
But Maggie is already showing signs that she’ll be a sweet big sister. “I picked out a few of my stuffed animals and I thought she might really like them,” she shares.
Martin — who founded Romp, an eco-friendly toy store featuring all battery-free playthings — will next appear in Hallmark’s Hello, It’s Me, in which she plays a single mother who receives calls from her husband following his unexpected death.
And while she jokes her baby girl has yet to send a message, Martin admits there have been plenty of physical reminders she’s pregnant.
“The baby woke me up last night [kicking],” she says. “I’m not sure what’s going on in there, but there’s a party happening inside.”
Hello, It’s Me premieres Sunday, Sept. 27 on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. Home & Family airs weekdays at 10 a.m., on The Hallmark Channel.
