Katie Holmes is feeling the birthday love!

The All We Had actress and director celebrated her 38th year Sunday, taking to Instagram to post photos from the celebration she shared with daughter Suri, 10.

“Birthday vibes!” she captioned one photo of the mother-daughter duo, following up with a second where Suri is all smiles.

“Birthday vibes continued,” the newly minted film director wrote, adding a number of heart emojis. “So grateful today.”

The fun didn’t stop at playful selfies. Not surprisingly considering the family’s love for gaming nights out, Holmes and Suri chose quite the low-key event to mark the occasion: bowling!

“Showing strength in bumper bowling lol,” the Dawson’s Creek alum captioned a snap of colorful racked bowling balls, adding more heart emojis and the hashtag “#birthdayfun.”

Holmes, whose directorial debut hit theaters Dec. 9, has been open on social media in the past when it comes to sharing mother-daughter moments with Suri, her only child with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

But she’s also made it clear that she knows where to draw the lines when sharing details about her personal life.

“I try to post things that take time,” the N.Y.C.-based actress told PEOPLE in October. “I am careful with what I share; I think about it. To me it’s like a magazine.”

When speaking to Modern Luxury recently, Holmes reiterated that as much as she loves her work, being a mother is her main priority.

“I think the most important thing in my life is giving my child the childhood I want her to have,” said Holmes, who will soon reprise her role as Jackie Kennedy in The Kennedys: After Camelot, of which she also directed an episode.

“That comes first. That dictates where I work and when I work because it’s my main job right now.”
