Crew‘s biggest fan club? His siblings!

Chip and Joanna Gaines‘ four older kids have more than enough love to go around for their baby brother, and are still “obsessed” with him nine months after Crew joined the family, Joanna tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, on newsstands now.

“It’s so funny. They still are completely obsessed with this kid,” the mother of five, 40, says of daughters Emmie Kay, 9, and Ella Rose, 12, plus sons Duke, 10, and Drake, 14.

And Joanna couldn’t relate to their feeling more. “A year ago, he wasn’t in our lives. Now you’re like, ‘How?’ ” she muses. “I think what’s so crazy about kids is by the time they hit the ground … it’s almost like we always knew he was coming, and this was his time.”

Joanna says her older children (who co-authored her brand-new children’s book, We Are the Gardeners) are “the best,” and have “the sweetest” approach to bonding with baby Crew.

“[I love] just watching them,” she shares. “Even when he’s crying and Drake will [say], ‘Hey, I’ll go.’ We have the stroller outside, and they’ll go all the way to the gate, back and forth.”

“[Crew] loves being outside, so it’s not a thing where I have to ask them,” Joanna praises her youngest child’s big brothers and sisters. “They just say, ‘Can I do this?’ ‘Of course.’ “

Even with the baby help she gets from her kids, the Fixer Upper alum certainly has a lot on her plate as a working mom of five. But she prioritizes living in the moment as her children grow up, instead of falling victim to the pressure to share everything on social media right away.

“When I’m with my kids and I realize I’m thinking, ‘Oh, this would be a cute moment to post,’ then I realize I’ve gone too far. ‘Cause now I’m not in that moment, now I’m thinking about [posting],” she explains. “So I will do this thing where, if I’m taking pictures, I always tell myself I have to wait a while before I post.”

Joanna’s new children’s book, We Are the Gardeners, is available now on amazon.com.
