The actress opens up about life with her son and helping fellow mothers

When it comes to Mother’s Day, Jessica Biel‘s potential plans with her 1-year-old son Silas Randall are refreshingly low-key.

“It would be fun to bring a picnic blanket in the yard, read books, just hang,” Biel tells PEOPLE at the Baby2Baby Mother’s Day Playdate presented by Tiny Prints. “When I’m not with him, I’m always thinking, ‘What is he doing?’ It would be nice to know that day we’re going to play and have fun. Maybe when he’s older, I can do some breakfast in bed!”

And the actress, wed to musician Justin Timberlake, says the Baby2Baby Playdate makes the mom’s holiday even more poignant.

“To see the moms spend quality time without the pressure of their normal lives, it’s really special,” Biel tells PEOPLE of hosting the event, during which 37 low income children and their mothers enjoyed a morning of playing and pampering, plus a bag of basic essentials at her family-friendly restaurant Au Fudge. “Five minutes down the road, there are families in need. I don’t think before Baby2Baby that I realized that.”

Being a new mom has also helped Biel, 34, appreciate her own mother, Kimberly.

“I never really understood what my mom did for me until I had a baby of my own,” says Biel. “Mom, you’re a saint. All those times that I annoyed you and I was a snotface and self-absorbed and you put up with it, I get it. Because when [Silas] is going to be a snotface to me, I’ll be like, ‘I love you! Whatever you want! I’m still here forever.'”
