Jenna Dewan Tatum Reveals Daughter Everly 'Took One Dance Class' and Was Over It: She's 'a Do-Her-Own-Kinda-Thing Girl'
Jenna Dewan Tatum may be known for her skills in tearing up a dance floor, but from the sounds of it, her daughter Everly has a different agenda.
The host of the upcoming Jennifer Lopez-executive-produced competition series World of Dance chatted with PEOPLE Monday evening at the PEOPLE and EW Upfronts Party in N.Y.C., admitting that once was enough for her 3½-year-old to get her dancing toes wet.
“She didn’t want to — she took one dance class, but then she didn’t want to go again,” said Dewan Tatum, 36, in an interview alongside fellow World of Dance star, judge Derek Hough.

The Step Up alum shares that she’s taking her daughter’s disinterest in dance in stride — because she doesn’t want to turn into the type of parent who forces her child along a specific path.
“I’m super conscious — because [Derek and I both] grew up this way — of not being a dance mom,” Dewan Tatum says. “She’s only 3½, but she says no, I’m like, ‘That’s okay! That’s okay, no problem!’ I’m way too lax and easygoing.”

“She’s very much a do-her-own-kinda-thing girl, so we’ll see what she gets into,” the mom of one adds.
One big question: Was husband Channing Tatum on hand with Everly for the World of Dance tapings? “He was there, but he was on dad patrol,” Dewan Tatum explains. “He was doing the real job backstage with Everly.”
World of Dance premieres Tuesday, May 30, at 10 p.m. EST / 9 p.m. CST on NBC.
