Reports from the Imperial Household Agency confirmed today that Japan’s Princess Kiko and husband Akishino are expecting their third child. Akishino is the second son of the Japanese Emperor. A male heir has not been born to the Imperial family since 1965, if Kiko delivers a boy then the succession debate could heat up as there would be another male in line for the Chrysanthemum Throne. At present Japan’s Crown Prince Naruhito and wife Crown Princess Masako have a four-year-old daughter Princess Aiko. Masako has suffered depression due to the pressure to present the family with a male heir, however recent opinion polls show overwhelming support to let Princess Aiko ascend the throne.
