The reason Walker misses mom Idina Menzel is so sweet.

A lot of people would like to hear Idina Menzel sing. In fact, they would pay big bucks to do so. But her 7-year-old son Walker Nathaniel is definitely not one of them.

The vocal superstar, a household name from her role as Elphaba in the original Broadway cast of Wicked and more recently in box office-busting Disney smash Frozen, recently stopped by PEOPLE Now to dish on her new full length, idina.

It’s safe to say that the album probably won’t make Walker’s personal playlist.

“He doesn’t like to hear Mommy sing!” Menzel, 45, tells PEOPLE of her son with ex-husband Taye Diggs. “The few times I’ve tried — I’d say, ‘Want to hear what Mommy did in the studio today?’ — the first song on the album is called ‘Small World’ and he started cry!”

But it’s not because he doesn’t like her million-dollar voice. In fact, the reason is positively aww-inspiring.

“He said, ‘Mommy, it makes me miss you.’ I said, ‘What do you mean? I’m here!’ He said, ‘It just makes me think about when you go onstage and I miss you!'”

Menzel, who recently announced her engagement to Aaron Lohr, says Walker “hates Frozen” (beloved by children across the globe) for pretty much the same reason. “He just hates Mommy working and singing.”
