Adam Levine Reveals the Real Reason for His Tattoos as Gwen Stefani Hopes Her Sons Don't Get Inked Like Blake Shelton

"Is your mom mad at you for those?" Gwen Stefani asked Adam Levine of his tattoos

They can relate when it comes to music (and hair color!), but as it turns out, Gwen Stefani and Adam Levine‘s opinions differ pretty vastly when it comes to body ink.

Entertainment Tonight chatted with The Voice coaches preceding a taping of their show recently, where the No Doubt songstress, 47, got honest about her view on the subject.

“Is your mom mad at you for those?” she asked Levine of his numerous tattoos. “I don’t know, I feel like my niece just got a bunch of tattoos and I’m really mad at her, she’s 21. I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’ ”

Stefani’s comments come a few weeks after she shared a photo to Twitter of her sons Apollo Bowie Flynn, 3, Zuma Nesta Rock, 8½, and Kingston James McGregor, 10, rocking fake tattoos to match their mom’s boyfriend Blake Shelton‘s.

“What’s wrong with tattoos?” asks the Maroon 5 frontman, 38.

“I like tattoos — if my kids wanted to get one, I would hope that we could talk about what it is so that we don’t have big regrets in the future, that’s it,” she clarifies.

Levine says that he has so many tattoos himself for a very strategic reason when it comes to Dusty Rose, his 7-month-old daughter with wife Behati Prinsloo.

“I got them so she wouldn’t think they were cool, and she wouldn’t want them,” he jokes. “See, it was reverse psychology.”

Adds Stefani of Shelton’s barbed-wire ink, “Hopefully they won’t get one like Blake’s tattoo.”
