Anna Chlumsky, who welcomed her 6-month-old daughter Penelope Joan with entrepreneur husband Shaun So in July, couldn’t be more ecstatic about her new role as first-time mom.

“I didn’t know I would love it this much,” the Veep star, 33, told PEOPLE at HBO’s season three premiere of Girls in New York City on Monday.

“I thought I was going to be a lot more freaked out than I am, but it’s so much better than you could ever imagine.”

Chlumsky, who first came into the limelight with 1991′s My Girl, is currently focusing on striking the perfect balance between her personal and professional worlds now that she has a baby in tow.

“I’m really blessed because everybody at work loves her and loves having her around,” she says of the Veep cast. “I always say it beats a law firm because I get to bring her to set a lot of the time.”

As for baby Penelope’s favorite part about those visits?

“She likes the makeup and hair trailer!” Chlumsky shares. “She’s got this little hair thing that she’s famous for — it sticks up — it’s her signature [style] right now.”

Away from the office, there’s nothing the happy mom revels in more than bonding with her baby girl. “We have girl talk all the time — all the time,” she says.
