Future Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi becomes a grandmother again

Nancy Pelosi has had an amazing week. First last Tuesday the Democrats won back control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, then she was elected Speaker of the House (the first woman to have the position), and then the veteran California Representative became a grandmother for the sixth time when her daughter filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi and her husband, Dutch TV journalist husband, Michiel Vos, welcomed their first child Paul Michael Vos. Paul, 8 pounds, 10 ounces, was born via natural childbirth on Monday at 10:30 am. He was named after Nancy’s husband Paul.

Alexandra said that Nancy told her, "’If we don’t win the House, I’ll be your baby nurse.’ I was a cynic so I didn’t have a baby nurse lined up before the election."

Even with the hubbub of campaigning, Nancy helped Alexandra prepare the baby’s room in her Manhattan apartment. Alexandra said, "I thought newborns in New York didn’t need their own piece of real estate, but she moved me out of my office! The best part was when she said, ‘Maybe you should sleep in the small bedroom and let the baby have the big room.’ I said no!" Nancy also went on a shopping spree at Buy Buy Baby, picking up a Bugaboo ("They’re Dutch and Michiel’s Dutch," explained Alexandra), a mobile, bassinet and bedding.

Alexandra is a journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker whose first film Journeys with George followed George W. Bush on his first presidential campaign. She just finished editing a movie about Evangelical Christians for HBO.
