Frances Bean Cobain: 'I'm taking my time'
At a time when many of her peers are famous merely for being famous, 15-year-old Frances Bean Cobain — refreshingly — isn’t willing to cash in on the insta-fame she’s arguably entitled to as the daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain. In the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Frances says that although she understands the public interest in her life, "at the same time its creepy."
These people are fascinated by me, but I haven’t done anything. I’m famous by default. I came out of the womb andpeople wanted to know who I was because of my parents. If you’re a big Nirvana fan, a big Hole fan, then I understand why you would want to get to know me, but I’m not my parents. People need to wait until I’ve done something valid with my life.
With interests that range from photography to acting to journalism — including a potential internship at Rolling Stone — Frances is in no hurry to be pigeon-holed.
I’m taking my time. But I get asked what I want to do all the time because of my parents, because of the life I live.
For the magazine Frances was photographed as Evita as well as characters from Grease and Beauty and the Beast, which Courtney deemed fitting given her daughter’s love of musicals. Frances, Courtney quipped, "is a gay man trapped in a woman’s body, like me." Frances, for her part, sings the praises of her paternal grandmother in Olympia, Washington whom she credits as "the most constant thing I’ve ever had." She adds,
I’m really lucky because I’ve been able to go places and meet people you can only dream of, but she’s probably the person I respect most out of anybody in the world.
