Brian is the fifth Ranger in history to have his number retired. Brian’s wife, Mary Beth, and his two older children, son Jack, 7,and daughter Riley Anne, 4, were in attendance as well for the presentation. Brian officially announced his retirement on May 24, 2007 ending his 18-year career in order to devote more time to his family. Brian savored his special moment with his family saying:

It’s such such a personal thing with your kids. He [Sean] was pointing at everything, at the No. 2 on the ice, at the No. 2 going up. I was so proud of my kids for getting through it and not causing a fuss.
