"It's like a game we have, and then I end up with too many smells," she tells PEOPLE
Fergie has a full plate!
The Black Eyed Peas singer is gearing up for the October launch of her new fragrance, Outspoken Party, a part of her collection with Avon.
And that’s not all: In addition to the release of her fifth fragrance, Fergie, 40, is also busy raising 2-year-old Axl Jack, her son with husband Josh Duhamel, and is wrapping up work on her second album, due out later this year.
In anticipation of her new fragrance, PEOPLE chatted with Fergie about her beauty obsessions, how Axl helps her get ready and who really has the most clothes in the family.
PEOPLE: I know that you just celebrated a major birthday so congratulations. I wanted to ask you — what does 40 feel like?
Fergie: Exciting. I really don’t feel a change. It’s a great year because I’ve got my fragrance, I’m about to release an album — I’m finishing up on that.
I’m going on tour around the world again. I get to take Axl different places and experience touring in a whole new way and then put him to bed and go out to the after party!
PEOPLE: Is there anything that you’re looking forward to at 40 that you weren’t looking forward to before?
Fergie: I think just experiencing things through Axl’s eyes.
PEOPLE: What is your single most beauty product obsession?
Fergie: I like my collection of fragrances — I have them lined up on my vanity in my bathroom. Axl loves to pull the top off of them and have me spray, and then he likes to smell it. Then he gets to hold the cap, he gets to put it back on and [it’s good for] his motor function because the top of my bottles fit right in his hand.
I’m obsessed with them because they look so beautiful on the stand all together, just a beautiful collection, and I feel so special because it’s not every day that a girl gets to have her own fragrance line with this many fragrances lined up on her vanity. I feel very lucky and very blessed.
PEOPLE: Do you have a favorite for date night?
Fergie: Yes. I like Fresh for the more daytime situations, like taking Axl to school, and Outspoken Party for night, absolutely.
PEOPLE: Does Axl get to pick out what fragrance you get to wear each day?
Fergie: I think he does, but I get in trouble with that one. He wants to open them all one by one and take the top off. It’s like a game we have, and then I end up with too many smells.
PEOPLE: Who has the most clothes in the house; you, Axl, or Josh?
Fergie: Me! By far. I’m in a constant state of trying to purge things.
PEOPLE: Does Axl get to weigh in on your red carpet choices? Do you show him your looks before you head off?
Fergie: He doesn’t get to weigh in; he’s a little young. But he finds it very interesting when I’m dressed up. He’s not used to seeing me all the time in heels because it’s not really sensible to be running around in the park in some big old heels. So when I get dressed up and a little bit more girly, he’s very curious about it.
