Kerry Washington and her baby bump have hit the Emmys red carpet!
The 39-year-old actress stunned on the 2016 Emmy Awards red carpet in a custom black, Brandon Maxwell cut-out bustier gown that perfectly flaunted her baby belly.
The strapless ensemble came equipped with a cut-out just above the belly and a long, cape-like addition stretching down to the floor.
Topping off the look, the expecting actress sported long, voluminous curls — a ‘do her stylist promised would be “something very special.”
“[Kerry’s hair] has to be something very special. Because she’s pregnant, it’s gonna have to be [a style] that will blow everyone away,” Washington’s longtime hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew previously told PEOPLE.
For the expecting mom, red carpet preparation requires a sartorial confidence boost. “When you’re a pregnant lady on the red carpet, you need to feel like a superhero,” Washington told Extra.

During the same interview, comedian Jimmy Fallon jumped in to make a cameo — and chat with Washington’s unborn baby.
“Ah! You look gorgeous! So good to see you … what is happening?” Fallon told Washington, directing his attention toward her noticeable bump. “Hi, baby! Hi, baby! It’s Jimmy! I can’t wait to meet you — it’s gonna be so fun. I’m going to see you backstage someday!”
Washington is expecting her second child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha. The couple are already parents to 2-year-old daughter Isabelle Amarachi. And while she didn’t provide an exact due date, she admitted that she’s close to the finish line — and finding out the sex of her baby on the way.
“We don’t know yet … I’m open … honestly, healthy, happy baby — that’s what we want,” she said. “I’m close, I’m close. If you see me scooting across stage, it’s ’cause we have another week of shooting — we’ve got to keep it inside.”
As for her not-so-pregnant alter ego Olivia Pope? The star of Scandal said they’ve been getting creative to cover her bump.
“We’re hiding behind bags and boxes and things — big coats, big Prada bags,” she said.
Washington was nominated for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or a movie for her role in Confirmation.
