Females are strong as hell, indeed.

Ellie Kemper and husband Michael Koman are expecting their first child, PEOPLE has learned.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star, 35, and Koman (a writer who previously worked for Conan O’Brien) dated for a few years before tying the knot in July 2012.

In 2011, Kemper, who previously had roles on The Office and in Bridesmaids, told O’Brien, “Michael’s a delight, as you know, so of course [my parents] like him a lot.”

The actress appeared on Wednesday’s The Tonight Show where she confirmed her pregnancy telling late night host Jimmy Fallon, “I have big news, I’m pregnant!” Kemper then pointed to her growing bump as Fallon adorably leaned over and said, “Hi baby!”

And to celebrate, Kemper was gifted a pint of Ben & Jerry’s The Tonight Dough ice cream.

While the mom-to-be was excited to share her news with the audience, she admitted keeping it under wraps during the early stages of her pregnancy wasn’t easy.

“[My pregnancy] didn’t really affect filming until the very end. We had a table read and I saw that my character was supposed to be on a roller coaster … I was Googling pregnant women on roller coasters,” she said.

“I felt like a pregnant lady on a roller coaster is not ideal. I had to tell my boss Tina Fey … Because it was still so early on we decided we’ll just tell people that I have a back injury and that’s why I can’t ride the roller coaster.”

Although it seemed like the perfect plan, Kemper joked, despite being an actress, she couldn’t keep up with the lie.

“I could not act like I had a back injury. I kept forgetting I had one so I would do things someone with a back injury can’t do,” she said. “They’d yell lunch and I’d leap up and [do] cartwheels to catering. You’re not supposed to do that!”

Kemper will be making a Today appearance Friday morning.

Season two of Kemper’s Netflix hit premieres Friday.
