Ellen DeGeneres Bets Natalie Portman $1,000 She's Having a Girl: 'I Really Don't Know' the Sex, Says the Actress
Natalie Portman stopped by the Ellen DeGeneres show Tuesday to talk about her new biopic Jackie and her second pregnancy
The first time Natalie Portman was pregnant, she craved sweets. But this time, it’s a little bit of a different experience.
“With [son Aleph, 5½], I wanted like … cream puffs, any dessert with cream in it, or just plain whipped cream straight,” the Oscar-winning actress says on Wednesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show as she stops by to promote her new biopic Jackie.
“And this time it’s healthy, like pineapple, cucumbers … burritos, which is maybe less healthy but delicious,” continues Portman, 35, adding that her dark-blue ensemble is a dress by TopShop Maternity.

The Black Swan star notes that she and husband Benjamin Millepied haven’t found out the sex of their soon-to-arrive second child, but the host has a hunch.
“Really? Why?” Portman asks.
“Because … ’cause,” DeGeneres answers, eliciting laughter from the audience and her guest.
DeGeneres recalls the last time Portman was on her show, she was pregnant with her son Aleph — and the host made a prediction at the time that missed the mark (although she did correctly predict that Portman would win the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Black Swan).
“Last time, I did three tests on you, [and] each one of them came out that it was a girl,” she says. “They all said girl, and you had a boy.”

The expectant actress explains that her son Aleph’s name is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet and has special meaning to her even outside of that specific tie to her heritage.
“It’s not really a name in Hebrew usually, but it has a lot of mystical, symbolic meanings of humility, strength,” she says.
“Will you go that same route with her?” asks DeGeneres. ” ‘Cause you’re really not gonna [use] ‘Ellen,’ although I think you should.”
“I really don’t know the gender,” Portman says, “even though we’re referring to it as a [her]!”
The twosome then agree to a friendly wager about the baby’s sex, shaking hands over a prize of pizza and $1,000.
“It seems like it would be in my favor since last time you were so, so wrong!” Portman says. “Food-related bets, I will always take.”
