Elizabeth Hurley Takes Son Damian to Moroccan Desert for a Birthday Surprise
"It was exquisite, we road camels, rode quad bikes," she tells PEOPLE
Elizabeth Hurley is not only a yummy mummy, she’s also a thoughtful one.
Hurley, who plays Queen Helena on The Royals, gave her son Damian, whose father is businessman Steve Bing, a princely birthday fête in the Moroccan desert.
“My son was 14 last week,” she told PEOPLE at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Hot Pink Party on Thursday. “We went to Morocco, to Marrakesh, and we had a couple of days in the city and then we went out to the desert for the night, no electricity, no cell phones.”
She adds, “But we had tumblers and dancers and singers and belly dancers. There were just four of us. It was exquisite, we road camels, rode quad bikes. It was great.”

Onstage that night, Hurley told pal Sir Elton John, who has been generous with the charity over 14 years, and who performed that evening, that Estee Lauder Companies, Inc.’s Leonard Lauder, who founded the charity with his late wife Evelyn, who later died of ovarian cancer, had named a research grant in honor of the singer. The grant will provide funding for a British scientist doing breast cancer research.
And have the royal family praised Hurley’s hit show, just renewed for a third season? “They haven’t to me,” Hurley says. “But I get a feeling in my bones that they love it, and I’m sure I’m right.”
