A Day in the Life: Mom of Three Daphne Oz Takes PEOPLE Through Her Balancing Act of Work and Motherhood
QUEEN OF ARTS
"When I'm home, our mornings are hectic because somehow we're always running late," Daphne Oz tells PEOPLE, describing a typical day with her three kids: Domenica Celine, 5 months, Jovan Jr., 2½, and Philomena Bijou, 4.
"I set the kids up with arts and crafts or cartoons while I get breakfast together," she adds. "They love eggs and toast, cereal in a pinch or these high-fiber pancakes I make with an organic mix that I doctor with ground oatmeal, flax seeds, eggs and a little butter … plus some chocolate chips if I'm feeling generous."
BABY BONDING TIME
"While the kids are at school and classes, my littlest (Nica!) and I hang for a bit," says Oz, 32. "It's hard with three this close in age to find alone time for any of them, but I make even a few minutes here and there count."
"She is such a sweet, easy baby (knock on wood!)," adds the star. "I don't know where she is gazing off to in this picture because she is normally all smiles!"
"A few days a week, I'm usually running between meetings and/or on set for guest appearances, which is so busy and fun!" she says. "I really do soak up quiet time with the kids when we're all just hanging at home, and that way I can enjoy being full-time Mom when I'm with them and full-time on when I'm not."
Adds Oz, "Actually, the episode of The Kitchen I taped is airing on Food Network this weekend — it's the Mother's Day episode, and I'll be making my chicken sausage fritatta!"
FIT AND FABULOUS
"I try to maximize my time and crunch my work into the hours while the older kids are busy," Oz tells PEOPLE. "I'm working on my next cookbook, so I spend a couple hours in the afternoon writing at a favorite local juice bar. I have started this new thing where I only answer e-mails at three times of the day, and I schedule my calls back to back and take them while I go for long walks (sometimes on the beach!)."
Of her workouts, she continues, "If I'm stuck inside, I try to do arm routines, squats and planks — or a quick ourbodyelectric.com routine — just to keep my body moving as I work toward feeling strong in my skin again after baby No. 3. Note about this photo: I do not surf, but I love a prop!"
LIFELONG BEST FRIENDS
"Then it's home and oh, my heart!" she raves to PEOPLE of her little girls. "These two melt me ... they are such good sisters. Exhibit A."
"Exhibit B," Oz says. "I wish I could say I planned these shots, but this is all Philomena's doing and Nica is obsessed."
"Meanwhile, in John's happy place, people play football shirtless all day long ... " she jokes of her son.
A LITTLE BUBBLY
"And then we turn on the bubble machine and it is kids' Ibiza," Oz says.
"Daddy's home! There's my smiley girl!" says the proud mom, sharing a photo of husband John Jovanovic with their youngest child.
DINNER IS SERVED
"For dinner, I'm making roasted salmon with honey-orange glaze," shares The Happy Cook author and former co-host of The Chew.
She adds, "I flake it over some brown rice and add a quick pickled cucumber on top. This is a super-fast family favorite of ours that everyone loves. Recipe will be on the site!"
"Did I mention Daddy's home? Goodnight!" Oz concludes.
