PARTY OF THREE
Constance and fiancé Kent Katich snuggle with daughter Luna Marie, born February 5. Luna’s delicate bassinet – complete with a teddy bear! – sits near the couple’s bed. How did they choose her name? “When she was born, she liked to be awake at night,” Constance shares.
Luna’s whimsical nursery was outfitted mainly by The Green Cradle in Sherman Oaks, Calif. “It was important for me to create a green nursery,” says Constance. “Usually, the nursery is the most toxic room in the house because everything is new! But here, the furniture is made out of sustainable wood without toxic varnishes and finishes.” The paint used on the walls is nontoxic, as well.
Though she doesn’t yet know it, Luna is already doing her part to create a healthier environment! She dresses mainly in organic clothes, and Constance uses cloth diapers on her baby girl. “At my baby shower, I asked my friends for organic, green products,” she shares.
Though the couple wanted a delivery surprise, ultimately, they decided to learn the sex of their baby so they could decorate. “I told the doctor to write down the gender on a piece of paper and give it to me,” says Constance. “About six months into the pregnancy, I opened the envelope and the doctor had written, ‘Surprise, it’s a girl!’ We were so sure it was a boy.”
Luna makes eyes at her proud mama from her solid wood crib, made in the United States from sustainable U.S. forests. Eventually, it will convert to a simple toddler bed. All of Luna’s crib bedding is organic – even the mattress!
