“I just think it’s so funny. Sometimes I’m Googling how to do it better,” Teigen, who’s the new brand spokesperson for Vita Coco Coconut Oil, told PEOPLE exclusively Wednesday in L.A. about breastfeeding.
“I’m like, ‘Is it working? Is it taking? I don’t think I’m feeling enough pain!’ You just get so confused about how it’s supposed to feel, and as hard as anyone said it was, I feel like it somehow managed to be harder.”

The Cravings author also recalled seeing her husband, John Legend, get emotional for the first time over their baby girl. “I remember when she was first born, I was laying in the bed and she had her very first shots, so he had to wheel her down,” she says.
While the “All of Me” singer is usually “very put together,” Legend got choked up when he brought his newborn baby to get her shots.
“She grabbed onto his finger, and that’s when he said he started to cry. That was so cute for me to hear,” says Teigen. “That’s when they really connected, ’cause her tiny little newborn fingers grabbed onto his thumb.”
One of their first family outings was with close pals Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West, and was of course documented on Snapchat. “That was the first time [we went out], and it’s nice to be able to get out of the house,” says Teigen, who laughed about her daughter looking a little in love with Uncle Kanye on the lunch date.
“I think with any man, she looks up at them like, ‘Aw.’ As her mother and as a woman, you’re like, ‘Why don’t you look at me like that?’ “

Since welcoming Luna into the family, the new mom has also tried to keep products she uses on her daughter as natural as possible. The star has been rubbing coconut oil on Luna’s bottom “since day one,” she adds. “We had so many test runs with so many different products, but coconut oil is the one thing we’ve learned that really hasn’t had a negative effect at all.”
And though she’s busy navigating new motherhood and renovating her dream home with her husband, Teigen says she and Legend also make sure to sneak away for date nights when they can.
Two or three nights a week, the couple heads to a local movie theater for a romantic night out — but sometimes the exhausted mom just falls right asleep.
“I’m not kidding, I go there not to watch a movie, I go there to sleep,” she jokes. “I order food, lay on my side and shovel it into my mouth. I get the blanket and lay there and he watches the movie and I am passed out.”
But in all seriousness, their date nights help the pair feel like “just ourselves again,” she says. “It’s nice to be able to be romantic and do cute things like that. We come home and we’re like, ‘We missed her!’ It’s nice to be able to feel that way.”
