Channing Tatum is a man of many talents.

He can dance, wield a gun and do his own stunt work. But can he change a diaper?

Before the birth of his daughter, Everly, last year, the actor told PEOPLE, “I have never changed a diaper before, so I may need some help learning. I hope I don’t have any problems where the diaper falls off and the baby poops on the ground.”

But now that Everly just celebrated her first birthday, the doting dad says he has mastered the tasks.

“I’m solid at changing a diaper now,” Tatum, 34, proudly told PEOPLE at the 22 Jump Street press day on Thursday.

“If a guy isn’t good at changing a diaper, I don’t know what he’s there for, really, ’cause they’re not there for the first seven months for any other reason than to do that because the mom is the end-all, be-all of everything.”

Not that the very active little girl makes things easy for her father.

“My daughter does not like sitting still, and I can do the whole thing while she’s crawling, standing up,” he said. “I’m pretty solid at it!”

Although he’s a pro at diaper duty, the Jupiter Ascending star also admits to some accidents with Everly that may involve flying food or spit-up.

“There’s always mishaps,” he said with a laugh. “The whole day is just a big old mishap, but I find it really fun. It’s always a different thing everyday.”

After making four movies back-to-back, Tatum plans to take it easy this year. He’s currently writing the sequel to Magic Mike, but will mainly devote his time to wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Everly.

“I want to slow down and don’t want to miss my child’s first 10 years of her life,” he said. “So it’s going to be nice to spend more time with the family.”
