CBB chats with singer/songwriter Leigh Nash

The Celebrity Baby Blog recently had the chance to interview Leigh Nash, a singer/songwriter who you may remember best as the ‘Kiss Me’ lead singer of Sixpence None The Richer. Leigh is a very busy woman – she released her debut solo CD Blue on Blue on August 15th and is raising her 2 1/2 year old son, Henry.

Back in June, we had asked CBB readers to submit questions to Leigh for the interview – here are the answers. Leigh has also been kind enough to share an exclusive download with us – her song Just a Little, performed live at Hotel Cafe. Click here to hear it! The song is about Henry – "the best thing I ever did" – and the first time she had to leave him, walking past his bedroom door.

The following are CBB reader’s questions for Leigh:

Q) Sixpence None the Richer broke up 2 months before your son was born. How did the break up of the band influence your album?

A) It was one more thing that made me feel free and independent. It really helped in writing this record to feel like I was completely on my own two feet!

Q) How did your pregnancy and birth of your son influence your Blue on Blue?

A) The birth of my son Henry has changed my life in so many ways! I felt so inspired to write and sing about him – I started writing when he was about 9 months old, so I was in full swing of being a mom, but also at a creative peak.

Q) How has being a mother influenced your music in general? Do you find you are more creative in any particular way now that you are a mother? What about during your pregnancy?

A) I generally feel like the well from which I draw creatively is much deeper and there are endless topics to write about.

Q) Which songs are directly influenced by being a mother?

A) Just A Little, Angel Tonight, and Never Finish.

Q) How are you going to deal with childcare while on tour? Bring him with you, bring a nanny, etc.

A) I’m on a tour this Fall that will come home for half the week. I don’t know how that will do, it’s still going to be difficult. My mother is staying with us this year to help out while I work, but it’s not easy!

Q) Is there anything about your pregnancy or being a mom that you would like to share with us?

A) I loved being pregnant in a way…of course there are undesirable things about it as well. I toured until I was 7 months pregnant in a bus and on planes! I don’t recommend climbing in and out of bunks on a bus when your belly/baby is 7 months along!!!
