The world discovered Carrie Underwood was having a boy when Brad Paisley spilled the beans at the CMA Awards, but the mom-to-be and Mike Fisher made sure that they found out in a much more intimate setting.
And no, it wasn’t at the doctor’s office.
“It’s kind of a sterile place,” Underwood told ABC News Radio. “We got to see all the pictures and everything. It was really cool to see that, but whenever she’d get near those parts, we would look away.”
The singer, 31, who says she and her hockey player husband, 34, suspected it was a boy all along, asked the doctor to write down the baby’s sex, so they could look at it when the time and place felt right.
That place ended up being a local restaurant while the couple was out on a date night.
“[It was] just the two of us in a nicer setting, but we both knew,” she said. “So, that was just confirming our suspicions. We didn’t really speak of it before because we were both just like, ‘Whatever. It’s all good.’ But we knew it was a boy.”
Underwood made sure not to tell her CMA Awards co-host the news until just before the public reveal.
“Brad’s got loose lips. He’s a blabber mouth!” she joked. “So, I was like, ‘I’m not gonna tell you until we’re ready for the rest of the world to know, because I know you’ll tell people.'”
Underwood’s Greatest Hits: Decade #1 is out Dec. 9.
