Bryce Dallas Howard urges flexibility for new parents
In a Monday morning appearance on CBS’s The Early Show, Bryce Dallas Howard raved about motherhood and the "incredible" Theo, her 2 1/2-month-old son with husband Seth Gabel. According to the Spider-Man 3 actress, young Theo is already sleeping through the night — thanks in no small part to his healthy appetite.
I was the same way. He’s, you know, a big strong hearty eater so, you know, he can go a long time without eating. He’s a wonderful baby.
One of the best benefits of the new baby is the profound impact he’s had on Bryce’s entire extended family, including proud grandfather Ron Howard, who was present at Theo’s birth and whom Bryce on Monday described as "hilarious."
He’s amazing. I mean, there’s four kids in my family and so, obviously, he’s very nurturing and loves kids. But it’s just brought out this really youthful side of him. I mean, he’s behaving almost like a kid again.
When asked to reflect on the best piece of advice she’d been given as a first-time mom, Bryce did not hesitate with her answer: Stay flexible!
It’s that you have certain expectations and things that you want to be just a certain way, and then — and then, when you realize that it can’t be the way that you expected, you know, I would be really hard on myself or really disappointed. And then you just — if you just kind of let go of all of that and you just be really present with your child, and just do the best that you can in every given moment, then you know, then things usually turn out, hopefully.
