After Brooke Shields penned her first children’s novel Welcome to Your World, Baby — a story about a little girl welcoming her baby sister home — it was only a natural progression that her next book be about the girls’ adventures together. Looking to her family for ideas, Brooke found much inspiration in the budding relationship between her two daughters and their father, Chris Henchy and — much to the surprise of her husband — a story was born. “I think [Chris] was embarrassed, but very sort of touched by it,” shares Brooke during this morning’s appearance on the Today show.
While the topic of choice may have come as a surprise to Chris, for Brooke it was a no-brainer! “I feel like the relationship between little girls in particular — I only have little girls — and their dad is such a unique one,” she admits. Case in point? Chris is dearly missed by his daughters when he is in the next room!
“He can go into the next room and then come back and they’ll be like, ‘He’s back! He’s back, Mom!’ I’m like, ‘He went into the next room … [am I] chopped liver? I’m here the whole time!’ They’re like, ‘Yeah, but he’s here now!’ So he’s a rockstar god to them and this [book] is a tribute to their relationship and what they do together.”
It’s the Best Day Ever, Dad! is now in stores. Brooke and Chris are parents to Rowan Francis, 5 ½, and Grier Hammond, 3.
