Britney Spears' doctors say she has postpartum depression
Britney Spears‘ recent behavior and wild partying may have a medical reason behind it. According to TMZ‘s sources, doctors at Promises, Britney’s rehab facility, think the reason for Britney’s troubles the last few months is due to postpartum depression following the birth of her sons Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline. They think either bipolar disorder or postpartum depression is to blame, but they are leaning more towards postpartum depression. It is likely that the alcohol and substance abuse were Britney’s way to dull the pain. She tried to self-medicate but instead of feeling better, her problems spiraled out of control.
About.com’s Pregnancy Guide Robin Weiss, tells us, "Postpartum depression has gotten a lot of attention in recentyears. While the numbers may appear to be rising, it may also be more likely that it is simply becoming more socially acceptable to admit toneeding help and having difficulties in the postpartum period."
Following are some risk factors. It sounds like Britney has a few of the signs.
- History of depression, anxiety, panic, obsessive thoughts or behavior, mania
- Family history
- Marital conflict
- Prior episode
- Low confidence as parent
- Baby’s personality, health or disability
