Gone, but never forgotten.

In a touching post dedicated to the memory of Bode and Morgan Miller’s 19-month-old daughter Emeline, who drowned in a pool last June, the couple’s midwife, Lindsey Meehleis, reflected on the eulogy she gave at the toddler’s funeral last year.

“We are two short months away from almost a year of the loss of our dear Emmy. Everyday still feels like a dream,” she wrote on Instagram Friday, advising every parent to be mindful of water safety.

“We must all make a commitment together to do better for our children and get them watersafe. The AAP recently changed their water safety guidelines and they need to be shouted from the rooftops. I never want to stand up with my knees trembling looking my dear friends in the eyes as I give a eulogy for their daughter,” she added. “These are some of the words that I spoke this tragic day. @morganebeck& @millerbode I love you guys so much.”

Along with her important message, Meehleis shared a photograph of herself from the infant’s funeral.

During her eulogy, Meehleis began by sharing that Morgan showed tremendous “strength” as she welcomed Emeline into the world, a trait that would carry her through the grief she felt after her daughter’s death.

“I often believe that the way a mother labors her baby into this world is a reflection of the child’s personality or part of the story they set out on. On the Eve of Emmy’s Birth, 3 full weeks before her due date, we gathered and witnessed Morgan who was worn down, sick & exhausted after a stomach flu had been passed from person to person in their house,” she wrote. “She dug deep for a strength that she never knew she had and pushed through… finding the energy to birth their baby girl.”

“The strength that Morgan found that night was Emmy’s first gift. For Emmy knew that her time here would be short, and she knew that in order for her parents to survive her loss, that the strength that they found that night wasn’t optional, it was necessary,” she shared. “There is something special about every newborn baby, but there was something extra special about Emmy…. her eyes told us a story. She was fearless, determined & fierce.”

Shortly after Emeline’s delivery, the couple’s midwife “jotted down” a few words about how special the newborn was.

“On the morning you were born, all wisdom from past generations was instilled upon you & your wisdom on future generations will go forth. The world is forever changed because of the one and only you,” Meehleis shared.

“Retrospectively these words couldn’t be more true. While her time here was short, her fierce energy has forever changed the world. She came forth….sacrificing her own life in order to save the lives of many others. Her wisdom will go forward with future generations ….. but I would like us to commit to her current generation now,” she added, urging everybody to hold hands and create “a web of embrace for the Miller family.”

Meehleis added, “Each person…. sitting here in this room…..is the glue of the strong community that not only supports the Miller’s but each and everyone of you will also carry on the spirit of Emmy and the mission of her life.”

“This community is just one of the legacy’s that Emmy has left behind. So every time you think of her, let us think of the Miller’s, but also remember, that her spirit now lives within all of us. Allow her the honor of reminding you of your own greatness, your own purpose in this life and your ability to know her love forever. Every time you think of her, smile at someone as they walk past or give a hug to a loved one near by. We are all expressions of Emmy and this community will continue to show the Miller’s that her legacy will go forth on all future generations. #emmyslegacy,” she wrote.

Sharing her appreciation for her friend’s kind words, Morgan commented on the post, writing, “I love you.”

Following Emeline’s death, the Millers, who wed in 2012, welcomed a baby boy named Easton Vaughn Rek Miller on Oct. 5.

The baby is the couple’s third child together and Bode’s fifth. Morgan was about five months along in her pregnancy with Easton at the time of Emeline’s accident.

Although Morgan has previously shared photos of her son online, the beach volleyball player decided to “formally” introduce the couple’s baby to the world in February, just two days before he turned 4 months old.

“I haven’t formally introduced our little light, Easton Vaughn Rek Miller,” she wrote, alongside a smiling photo of her baby boy sitting up on the couch. “He is so special and has brought so much healing and hope.”

“Our baby Emmy will never be replaced but man, has this little bundle allowed us to feel a small sense of peace and in a weird way, a connection between the heavens and earth #lifeafterdeath,” she added.
